I haven’t participated in a read-a-thon since I was at school but since signing up to twitter I’ve been delighted to see so many events devoted to books and book talk.
So with books in hand and a determined mindset I’ve decided to sign up for the Bout of Books read-a-thon event. Below is the official word from the organisers:
“The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 18th and runs through Sunday, August 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team”
I usually aim to read about a book a week (something at which I often fail) and have been trying to complete a challenge of 50 books in a year for several years now (this is my year though I can feel it). The read-a-thon is a chance for me to push myself a little and so my goal for the week will be to read three – yes, count ’em – three novels. These are:
On Beauty by Zadie Smith
Netherland by Joseph O’Neill
Zoli by Colum McCann
